Chris Kelley, Principal- The Kelley Group is owned by Chris Kelley, who has nearly 30 years experience in the journalism, interactive content, and strategic communications fields. His last position before leaving to start his own firm was at The Dallas Morning News, where he worked 27 years, rising through the ranks to oversee news and operations for Belo Corp’s Dallas-based Web sites.
Former city editor of The News, Chris served as editor of DallasNews.com, website of The News from 2001-2006. In concert with sales and audience development executives, he developed content and user experience strategy plans for the site that achieved approximately $28 million in revenue growth from 2001 to 2006—from $6 million to $34 million. During this five year period, the site won several national journalism awards, among them the 2005 Online Convergence Award from the Associated Press Managing Editors and the 2004 Scripps-Howard Foundation Web Reporting Award.
Chris also developed the second-most successful subscription-based newspaper website in the country, CowboysPlus.com, devoted to the NFL Dallas Cowboys. In addition, he served as executive producer of the DVD, JFK: Story Behind the Story, on the 40th anniversary of the JFK assassination (2003).
Chris is the author of a new book I Was a Stranger, Hope for a Hidden World (Brown Books, 2008; www.iwasastranger.org), which chronicles the life of Feliberto Pereira, a Cuban refugee and modern-day Good Samaritan. Chris is a regular speaker about refugees. He is a contributing author of Demographics: A Guide To Methods and Data Sources for Media, Business, and Government (Paradigm Publishers, 2006; www.demographicsbook.com).
